GERONTOLOGY DEPARTMENT INTRODUCTION

Mission

Our mission is to train graduates who can address the socioeconomic, sociocultural, sociopolitical, sociopsychological problems originating from the biological, psychological, sociological, cultural, anthropological, historical characteristics of the individual and social aging phenomenon from different perspectives such as the individual, family, society and country, determine the results, compare them and produce solutions.

To be a leading department that conducts original education and research in the field of gerontology and is preferred in national and international platforms.

To train health professionals who know the sociological structure of the society they live in,

Approach the problems in their field with an international scientific approach,

To work in units that enable the healthy aging of elderly individuals.

Student Admission and Registration Conditions

Candidates are accepted to the program on condition that they receive a sufficient NUMERICAL score from the YKS exam determined by ÖSYM.

Title Earned

Graduating students receive the title of Gerontologist and a Bachelor`s Degree

What is the duty of a Gerontologist

Gerontologists carry out the duties of determining, planning, organizing and implementing the services provided to the elderly

Employment Opportunities

After graduation, they work in universities, hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, physical therapy and rehabilitation centers, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Family and Social Policies, nursing homes, family counseling centers, daycare centers, research centers, private companies providing elderly services, non-governmental organizations, local governments and home care services. In the near future, the managers of the elderly services units of these institutions will consist of Gerontologists.

Important Note: In March 2024, the Ministry of Health appointed 150 Gerontologists through KPSS
