General Information

Gerontology means the science of aging and senility (gero = elder). Gerontology is a multidisciplinary science, that is, aging and aging are studied in different branches of science. In this context, in addition to health courses such as physiology, chronic diseases, sociology, law, social sciences with political content are also given. In addition, courses on psychology, communication, care and rehabilitation are also included in the gerontology department. Besides theoretical studies, Gerontology is also an applied science branch. First of all, it aims to increase the quality of life of the elderly. New technological or economic developments offer many opportunities to approach this goal. The department of Gerontology, which is included in the literature as the science of aging and aging, was used for the first time by the Nobel Prize-winning Russian scientist Ilja Metschnikow, and then began to be taught as a department in many universities, especially in the USA and European countries.

It is planned to accept students for the 2021-2022 academic year in the department, which was opened by recruiting faculty members in 2020 within the Faculty of Health Sciences of Çankırı Karatekin University.
